Success Without Sacrifice is Impossible.

Success is a Calling
When I think of success, I often imagine the image above: the feeling of stars enveloping you into an endless, nebulous bear hug, encapsulating you into the universe…
In these past couple of weeks especially, I have felt crucible moments layering on top of one another — telling me that there is a reason why my heart is pulling me towards the stars and toward the universe… straight to my purpose.
As dramatic as that may sound, success needs to be mind-shattering (just like an endless, nebulous bear hug from the stars). It needs to shake the bolts in your brain and push you to think deeply. It should mentally throw you over the edge into unknown territory.
Let The Stars Guide Your Way
Lately, I have been driving over to the local park after work. Late enough so that the night’s canvas still paints the sky and minimal people can be found in sight. I recline my seat inside my car and just stare above me. In the confines of this car and the darkness of the night, I can hear the sound of:
In the midst of just darkness and the twinkling of stars, I have time to think — really think — without the distractions of noise — just the stars to guide my way. I look overhead at the blinking stars while I wait, meditate, and listen for the Universe to give me the sign — the push needed to full-throttle drive my dreams into ignition.
The odd part of this whole experience wasn’t that I was afraid of my dreams. No…
Alone, I had the opportunity to have an inner dialogue and to discover why I was holding back on my dreams.
The one thing I was afraid of:
The hardest part about change isn’t when you are engulfed in your “old” life.
The hardest part of change — of realizing your Personal Legend — is when you are at your crossroads.
The crossroads is the moment when anything can happen. You can dwell on the past and remain there, or you can step over the line to new land — a new life.
It’s at the crossroads where you think of your friends, family, good times and bad times. You start wondering if it is selfish to leave those you care for behind to follow your True North.
But sometimes it comes to that.
You need to let go.
You need to let go and have faith that the universe — that God — is in control.
Our need for security and our desire to “keep” things and people is what separates us from true success.
First Comes Sacrifice, Then Comes Success
This is the price of success: we need to sacrifice the things we want to keep, for the things that we need — things that will allow us to personally grow in the right direction without limits.
The materiality of the world isn’t going to cut it.
I realize that on this journey forward, I may not be able to “keep” the things I’ve held on to in my old life.
But this is what’s better: I get to set free my strongholds and allow the Universe to take care of those I cherish.
Spending time in solitude has helped me and still continues to help me gain laser-focus on how I want to lead my life and the steps I must take to create an optimal environment that will allow for personal success.
After figuring out my core values, mapping out my value statements, and journaling out sacrifices I need to make, I found inspiration and adapted an awesome Language Tracker from Lili — a no BS language and travel blogger — whose content has been the inspiration for the productivity tracker and planner I use now to track the small victories I make every day.
Having some sort of daily tracker is a way to visually take it day by day and monitor progress. The point of a planner is to map out long-term goals by making small gains each day: also known as the Compound Effect.
The Compound Effect:
Your outcomes are all a result of your moment-to-moment choices, you have incredible power to change your life by changing those choices. Step by step, day by day, your choices will shape your actions until they become habits, where practice makes them permanent. — Darren Hardy
