I’m going to spoil this message for your at the very beginning.
It’s going to sound sad, but I hope that by the end of it:
You won’t be sad anymore.
A person will change his or her mind about you.
Hopefully, they’ll let you know upfront.
Often they don’t.
And you are strung along by a string.
It could be for all kinds of reasons
And because you’re you:
You drown in your thoughts of what ifs and maybes.
Maybe it’s because there’s another girl or guy in the picture
Or several for that matter.
Maybe you’re not “the one”
You’re not enough.
Or maybe, once again:
They’re just not that into you.
They changed their mind .
No matter what, it’s going to hurt. A lot. Times 100.
And as much as you want to put the blame on someone, you can’t and you won’t.
It’s not going to make things better.
Instead, you just let all your sadness and anger go
And wish the very best for that person.
Your heart breaks because in your mind
You only had one shot at perfection.
When it’s gone, you want nothing more.
Or perhaps it’s the other way around.
You want nothing less.
You wanted nothing more but for the first person you ever kissed,
The first of everything,
To be the one you married.
You wanted nothing less than someone who would be true to you
And the same you would be to him or her.
But more often than not, life does not happen in the fairytale form
We dreamt up for ourselves.
There will be many times when people will tell you that you will meet the right person one day. Although their words are very sweet, your heart will start to ache
As if there were several pins and needles jabbing at your heart.
In that second you will not be so sure if your heart is throbbing
Because of gratitude or the agonizing doubt of their words.
While good intentions were meant
It still hurts.
It hurts to hear someone tell us “one day” when all we want…
All we ever truly wanted
Was for that “one day” to be now
In the present moment.
It’s difficult to show gratitude by sympathetic ,encouraging words
When deep in our hearts
We just want someone to say simply:
“Whatever. It doesn’t matter. It’s okay. I love you and I won’t change my mind.”
We find this being said in a baby’s smile
A puppy’s kiss
In a flower rooted in the soil,
Swaying in the breeze
In the bonds of family…
The kind words of a stranger.
When all of this happens:
The world is a bit brighter than it once was
Even when all of this beauty and more
Had already existed before
It’s this way, I believe, because true love
It doesn’t change its mind.
I don’t know you, but no matter your past:
Wait for the person who would be okay with holding your hand until the end of time:
Wait for someone who would guard your heart as you would guard his:
While this may be too much to ask for:
Wait for someone who believes in the promise of a kiss…
And everything that comes after:
Sacred. Left untold.
To the one who is reading this:
Whether you’ve met someone, will try again, or have decided to walk alone…
